My blackbuck was harvested in South Texas in Jan. 2004.
I used my Winchester 243.
Using a blind stand, I had harvested a blackbuck doe the day before. I had decided to go ahead try for a blackbuck trophy - if I was lucky enough for a trophy buck to come my way. As it turned out, luck did seem to be in my favor
I had passed on another blackbuck doe earlier that morning. I didn't want to shoot her for fear the shot might scare off my trophy buck if one was in the area.
After sitting in the blind for awhile, a buck suddenly entered from the left, walked directly in front of my blind, and then kept walking with no obvious intent to stop. By then, he had walked to the right of my stand and since I was facing the morning sun at this time, I could barely see. At that point, he decided to stop, so I pulled my cap down as much as I could to help shield the sun from my eyes, tried to get a good, level breath and pulled the trigger.
I made a good hit and he only ran off into the sagebrush thicket about 50 yards.
He was so handsome! The first thing I remember noticing about him when I found him, is that his eyes were so green.
All this happened the last morning of the hunt. Needless to say, with such a handsome trophy and a blackbuck doe in tow, I came home very pleased with my hunt to South Texas.
Thank you very much,
