The Archery Biography of Anna Kozlansky

Since the time of my childhood growing up in rural Florida I have always loved fishing and the outdoors. In 1999, at the age of 29,I found myself living near Philadelphia Pennsylvania and engaged in marriage to an avid outdoor sportsman. Watching my Fiancée practicing in the yard with his archery equipment I could not help but notice that Archery is an elegant and graceful sport. After I expressed my interest in the bow to my future husband I was in the archery shop getting fitted for my first bow before the end of the week. I took several lessons on archery technique from the professionals and found that I could do this! I soon began enjoying participating in 3-D archery shoots and archery leagues through the winter.

In the spring of 2001 I accompanied my Fiancée and his brother on a daytime bowfishing trip to a State Park Lake. I was joining the trip to cast a line into the water for bass and enjoy the sun. But I soon became very interested in the large Carp that the guys were hauling into the boat. The best part of all was that they were "fishing" with their archery equipment! Well an order was paced to Muzzy for the bowfishing accessories to go with my PSE bow the next day. Soon I was tweaking my aim at underwater practice targets in a local pond. Hitting a target underwater is very different and far more difficult that shooting at a red bulls eye! My moment of truth came later that year when my husband took me out for my first "hunting" trip. I was going to be hunting for my first living quarry, the Common Carp. The story of my first experience is an exciting adventure and you can read all the fascinating details in my story "My Introduction to Bowfishing" found elsewhere on this site.

Since I first aimed at a fish in 2001 I have participated in several bowfishing tournaments in three states. I have even bowfished for Redfish and Gar in the bayous of Louisiana. In fact my husband and I have taken a week off and flown to the Florida Keys to hunt the elusive Southern Stingray with the bow and arrow! However, these are stories for another time. I have only begun to learn the techniques of hunting the worthy white-tailed deer. My hunting has been put on hold due to the recent birth of our first child, Ravyn. She is a beautiful little future archer! What is in store for me and archery during 2003 and beyond? Well I can only assume there will be many more exciting adventures that I will write about!
