On Saturday, July 19 Les and Gail Wynne, owners of Right on Target Family Archery celebrated the 13th Annual Bownanza.  Les and Gail started Right on Target in 1994 with the concept of offering a wide selection of bows and archery equipment but to remain small enough to give personalized service to their customers.  The weather was perfect for the planned outdoor activities. We all took a turn in the swing overlooking the creek as well as a chance to relax in the lawn chairs under the trees.

An array of events was scheduled throughout the day including seminars and raffle tickets.  The 3-D Tournament started out the morning on the outdoor range.  Kenneth Dillingham from Dillingham Outdoor Concepts, Mills River, NC had a tent set up for young archers to test their skills.  Displays were set up by several manufacturers and highlighted some of the latest concepts – T.R.U. Ball, Blue Star Blood Tracker and Bucknasty Custom Bowstrings to name a few.  Howell Taxidermy was on site and displayed some great trophies.  Everyone lined up at lunchtime for a barbeque and all the fixins.

After lunch, the indoor range was the scene for archery bowling as well as the traditional bow competition.   Throughout the day Les and Gail, along with their staff, were on hand to provide one on one guidance for all archers, beginners to seasoned shooters, in the pro shop.  An auction was held late in the afternoon giving participants a chance to pick up some great items.

Grand prize tournament winners were:

  • Open – Chris Daniels
  • Hunter – Billy Angel
  • Traditional – Buddy Ford
  • Youth – Dakota Brown

At the end of the day when we went our separate ways, we marked our calendars for Bownanza, ‘09 - another great day of archery with old friends and new!
