Presidential Election Heats Up

I’m sure many of you have been watching the news of the upcoming election. I have been following it very closely. As I vote republican any, McCain was always my first choice, I don’t think Obama has our, (hunters) interest at heart at all. I’m be afraid for our gun owner rights should he get elected.

I was, however, unsure of McCain's stance, until he choose Sarah Palin as his VP candidate. Sarah Palin, outspoken NRA member, pro-life, a woman who, it appears, has done it all, is a good role model for our daughters.

Sarah admits to being a hunter, a politically incorrect stance these days, but I’m glad to hear her admit to liking ‘moose stew’ and to bring a more balanced view of many issues to the table. She is for energy development, and she knows the north slope and ANWR. She is, and to me this is a big plus, from the WEST. With her and McCain, (he’s from Arizona) they know the problems and challenges facing westerners.

She’s from a small town, and will not refer to middle Americans as Obama did, saying, “And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion."

Don't you just LOVE that? We cling to our guns because we are bitter? What a nice sentiment from someone who has our best interest??? at heart.

In my opinion, the worst thing that the media is doing, and has done, is to lump all us women into the ‘Bambi Lover’ and ‘Tree Hugger’ category. They completely ignore the approximately 3 million, (get that, three million) women who actually HUNT, BOWHUNT, and actually carry GUNS!!!! The National Sporting Goods Association survey said that in addition to the estimated 3 million women hunters, as many as five million regularly shoot. We now make up about 15 percent of the shooting, hunting and firearms' market. Unbelievable. Yes, we are out there, we vote, and we are growing in numbers.

I hate being put in a box, just like they like to assume that, just because Hillary Clinton is a woman, all of us women would vote for her. Not Me. Sorry. I will vote for Sarah Palin, however.

I’m not sure of the figures on women who are married to hunters, who don’t actually hunt, but support their mates in their hunting endeavors. Most of these women also vote for hunting, gun owning, or at least not anti-gun candidates.

So, for my money, all of us women hunters should get behind the McCain-Palin ticket. I think we stand to lose a lot if Barack Obama gets elected.
