WomenHunters HOW Mentoring Program
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) & Information
What is the WH HOW Mentoring Program?
The WomenHunters Hunting and Outdoor Writing (HOW) Program is a new mentoring program in which women mentor other women or youth, both boys and girls, with the purpose of encouraging, promoting and educating them in the hunting traditions. A secondary goal is educating women and youth on how to share their experiences through writing and photography; their articles and photographs being shared with the public on the WomenHunters website. The mentor will provide guidance in all areas, and if needed, will get additional help from WomenHunters staff writers for the writing portion.
If you’ve already found a mentor/protégé match for yourself-GREAT! But if you’d like to be a mentor or you’re a protégé in need of a mentor, please also consider signing up today!
What do I have to do if I sign up?
Commitment:
WomenHunters ask mentors and protégés (students) to commit to 1 or 2 years, with a minimum of 2 hours per month spent working together. Activities and events are your choice and should cover any and all aspects of hunting and the outdoors, with special emphasis on safety at all times.
For more detailed information, please go to the Mentoring Page on the WomenHunters website (located near the top on the left-hand side) and read the WH HOW Program overview and on-line manual to know what is expected of participants.

Please Register:
If you haven’t already done so, please go to www.womenhunters.com and register on our website (minors, please do so with your mentor). Now you can share your experiences, articles and photographs live and online by visiting our “Bulletin Board - Mentoring forum” or the “Mentoring pages” on the website.
Articles, with or without photographs, should be emailed to Editor Jen Weiss for editing before being placed on our website. You are free to write as many articles as you’d like about your experiences. Her email is: jen@womenhunters.com
Photographs you wish to have posted on the website/Mentoring page can be emailed to Alyssa Haukom alyssa@womenhunters.com or Sue Burch sue@womenhunters.com. This is a great way to offer support and encouragement to your students (young or old!) and you’ll find it’s very rewarding for them to see their photographs on the website.
I don’t have any gear to teach someone with. What do I do?
Sponsors will help make the teaching and learning easy.
Sponsors:
Sponsors of the WH HOW Program will offer support in a variety of ways: through monetary donations, advertising, promotion and hunting products for our mentoring participants.
Hunting gear supplied to participants will be “on loan” for up to two years, and must be returned upon completion of the program. Gear will be recycled and reused by others in the mentoring program. We ask that you please show these products in your photographs and include the product names in articles written for the WomenHunters website.
As we begin our program, we anticipate gear to include compound bows and archery targets, with more products and gear becoming available as we grow.
Mentors--Please be sure to include your current physical address on your application so products may be delivered to you promptly.
Please help someone learn about hunting and the outdoors, and sign up today!!
